Star Tours

Review

(June 2008) - We decided to give this ride a try at about 10:30 in the morning. The line wasn’t too bad for standby (regular line), and the wait time was at around 20 minutes. So we stepped in line and walked into the building where the ride was housed.

The whole Star Wars theme was in full effect, from C3PO looking down on you close to the entrance, and with a bunch of droids working on stuff as we slowly climbed up to the top of the room. We entered a larger room and then waited another 5 minutes or so before boarding our ship.

We buckled up and all of the doors closed. The TV came on and a goofy robot guy said that it was his first day as a pilot, so we knew it would be bumpy ride. The screen opened up in front of us to show what was ahead. The launch was initiated and this newbie pilot decided to take an alternate rout out of the hangar.

The moving and shaking of our ‘ship’ and the motion on the screen helped give the feeling that we were really flying. The entire ride consisted of near misses out in space, a nice ride through the center of the deathstar and run ins with other ships, tie fighters etc.

We finally got to our destination and made a rough landing – and the ride was abruptly over.

Summary

Overall the ride was ok, but nothing too exciting. The quality of the film on the screen was a bit grainy, and some of the motion didn’t seem realistic. My thought as I exited the ride was that the whole thing was a bit dated. Star Wars is cool, but not as cool as it once was. I would say an average experience, and if you are a hardcore Star Wars fan you probably will like it alot more.

BONUS TIP: If you are a die hard Star Wars fan make sure to plan your trip while a 'Star Wars Weekend' is going on. There were Star Wars characters all over the place, a live interactive show, and opportunities to take photos with some of the characters.
