Review
(June 2008) - Mission: SPACE is a thrill ride located at Epcot in Orlando, Florida.
We walked right up to the Mission: SPACE ride around 8 p.m. and there was no wait to get on. We misunderstood the guy at the entrance when he asked 'intense or less intense'. We ended up going through the less intense version of the ride, which probably affected our experience quite a bit.
We waited just a few minutes and then were led into a briefing chamber where we were told that we were going to be part of a mission to Mars. We were lined up on different numbers on the floor, and these numbers corresponded with our role for the mission. There were only two other people in our briefing, so when it came time to enter the 'spacecraft' there were only two of us.
The ride started and we launched, around the moon for a slingshot out into space. Were instructed to carry out our roles in various situtations, from piloting the craft, seperating the rockets, etc. The auto pilot feature took over if the instructions were not carried out by a certain time. The ride ended by us landing on the martian surface.
After the ride you can participate in some other training exercises at the Advanced Training Lab.
Summary
The overall theme of the ride was excellent and it was easy to get caught up in experience of blasting into space and being an astronaut. We accidently picked the green team which was the less intense version of the ride, so it wasn't as thrilling as it could have been.
